About The First Christian Church

Our Core Values
  • The Bible:

The Bible is the authoritative collection of sacred writings of the Christian faith, comprising the Old and New Testaments. It is literally the Word of God. From the Bible, Christians understand who God is and respond by relentlessly pursuing a relationship with God through Jesus Christ.

  • Prayer:

Prayer is spiritual communion between God and men articulated in adoration, supplication, confession, and thanksgiving. It sustains and strengthens our close relationship with God through Jesus Christ our Lord. The depth of prayer reflects our engagement in the Word of God.

  • Family:

Family is any group of persons who descend by blood or spirit from a common ancestor. As Christians, we all spiritual descendants of Jesus Christ. We strive to uphold the institution of the nuclear family as revealed in the Bible and to build a spiritual family across our community.

  • Knowledge and Wisdom:

Curiosity, love of learning, critical judgment tempered by open-mindedness, creativity, and wisdom are vital for natural and spiritual growth.

  • Courage:

Bravery, perseverance, integrity, honesty, and vitality are the formula for overcoming opposition.

  • Love:

Love--in the form of kindness, intimate affection towards others, and social intelligence--is the highest commandment and the fulfillment of every law of God and the law of human society.

  • Temperance:

Humility, self-control, prudence, caution, forgiveness, and mercy should be the spiritual disposition of every Christian.

  • Transcendence:

We perceive the beauty and holiness of the One and Only Transcendent God embodied in God the Father, his son Jesus Christ, and the Holy Spirit, which we express in heartfelt worship privately and corporately.

  • Evangelism:

As we mature in embodying these values, we are called to proclaim in the Word of God, to preach the gospel and to lead all men to follow Christ. God is sovereign; we serve him through Christian charity and evangelism.

  • Our Creed (The Apostles' Creed):

    I believe in God,
    the Father Almighty,
    Creator of heaven and earth,
and in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord,
Who was conceived by the Holy Spirit,
    born of the Virgin Mary,
    suffered under Pontius Pilate,
was crucified, died, and was buried.
    He descended into hell.
On the third day, he rose again from the dead.
    He ascended into heaven,
and is seated at the right hand of God the Father Almighty.
From thence, he will come to judge the living and the dead.

I believe in the Holy Spirit,
    the holy catholic Church,
    the communion of saints,
    the forgiveness of sins,
    the resurrection of the body,
    and life everlasting.

    Amen.
